The mounting position of a fixed gas detector has a direct impact on how quickly and reliably gas leaks can be detected. In practice, there is no single installation height that fits all applications. The location mainly depends on how the target gas behaves once it is released into the air.
When installing KELISAIKE fixed gas detectors, the density of the gas relative to air should always be considered first.
For gases hat are heavier than air, the released gas tends to stay close to the ground, especially in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas. In these cases, detectors are usually installed close to floor level, typically 15–30 cm (6–12 inches) above the floor.
Lighter-than-air gases behave differently. After a leak, they rise and collect near the upper parts of the room. For this type of gas, detectors are normally installed near the ceiling or on higher wall surfaces.
Some gases, such as carbon monoxide, have a density close to that of air. These gases mix more evenly and are often best detected at breathing height, generally between 1.2 and 1.8 meters (4–6 feet) from the floor, where exposure to personnel is most likely.
During installation, detectors should not be placed directly next to ventilation fans, air inlets, or outlets to the outside. Strong or directional airflow may prevent gas from reaching the sensor properly and can affect the reading. At the same time, the sensor should not be installed in a stagnant area with little air movement.
The following table shows typical mounting positions that are commonly used in industrial and commercial installations. These values are provided as practical guidance and may be adjusted based on site conditions.
KELISAIKE fixed gas detectors should be mounted upright on a vertical surface, such as a wall or column.
This information is intended as general guidance only. Final installation should always follow the instructions in the applicable KELISAIKE product manual, as well as local regulations and AHJ requirements.
